OK, so I am on a quest to become a better parent. I have never been a big reader, but have found that is one of the best ways to get practical information, especially in regards to kids. I have one book I read on the suggestion of a therapist about better discipline solutions and such. Now my church (have I mentioned I LOVE my church, lol) has started a study on the book The Five Love Languages of Children. They do book studies on Wednesday nights while the kids have Awanas. I have enjoyed all the books so far but I think I am going to learn the most from this book.
So anyway, this book tells you about how different people give and receive love differently. There are 5 main ways...gifts, words of affirmation, acts of service, quality time and physical touch. Kids really need all of them, but when there is an area that you can tell they respond better, then that is their "primary" love language. I am excited to learn what my kids are, so I can do better at expressing to them just how much I love them. It can also help me with the discipline, as I will know what forms of discipline will be possibly emotionally hurtful to them. I don't want my corrections to be hurtful to them, as the point is to correct negative behaviors, not to hurt them.
Anyway, just amazed at how much I have read in the last couple of months, more than I have in a long time, that's for sure! I probably will never love to read like some people do, but I sure do love to gather useful information!
This is a blog that I am using to post fun and inspirational messages on. I hope you find something of use. I have a post from August 2005 that can walk you through the Roman's Road to Salvation if you have stumbled across this and you are not a Christian.

Mercy Endures
That is the title of a new book written by my pastor. I am so excited to read it! He has been through so much with battling cancer and I know I can get a new perspective by reading it. I can't even imagine suffering as much as he has. His wife and children have been by his side through the last 7 years as he's battled it, as well as his entire congregation. We got good news this morning about the one type of cancer he has getting better even without treatment (they've been focused on treating the other) and soon he'll have tests run to see how the treatment for the other is coming. I sure hope that all the prayers for healing are answered. He's such a wonderful man and pastor!

Happy Un-iversary
Eleven years ago today, I stood before friends, family and a preacher and said "I do." I was apprehensive, but really thought I was marrying prince charming. Well, 11 years, 2 kids and one divorce later, I can say I firmly believe there is no such thing as prince charming. For many reasons, this marriage did not have a happy ending. I'll tell you, so you can guard yourself in your own relationships, selfishness and pride should have no place in any relationship.
So, today, I am celebrating my new life. Is it what I always wanted? No. Am I content? Mostly. I would say, there are a few times that I have pangs to be with someone. I think that's because that's all I've known. Well, I am not run by "primal" urges, so here I sit single, not dating, enjoying being me. I haven't really had much of a clue who I was for a long time, but I appreciate my discoveries. I know that rushing into anything with someone new would just be stupid. I am enjoying being a mom to my 2 girls, a cashier and whatever I can be to my friends. Most weeks, I don't have much time for talking on the phone and stuff like that, but I grab a few minutes here and a few minutes there to catch up on things with them. I am so glad to have the good friends I do! I have cultivated relationships with co-workers that I barely saw before now that I am on a new schedule. We have a blast nearly every lunch break! Though this is not my ideal job (you know, when I was young and impressionable), I really do love the people I work with.
Oh and my new church. LOVE IT! I love being able to wear what I am comfortable in and being accepted! I don't feel guilty anymore for listening to Casting Crowns, Steven Curtis Chapman and many more like them. I feel truly welcomed by the other members and have even been asked to join the choir. I don't know if I am going to do that, but I have a few weeks before that's even an option. Right now they are prepping for a big performance in April. March is a little too late to join and be prepared for an April performance, lol.
So, it's not so bad being unmarried. It's not so bad being just me. I never knew that before.

Urgent Prayer Request
I don't know how many readers my blog even has, but I have a pretty urgent prayer request for my sister-in-law's mom. She has been ill this last sick months or so, in and out of the hospital. Well, she's spent the last few weeks in the hospital and things are not looking good. I am not exactly sure what is causing all this, but there is fluid around her heart and lungs. Also she is having problems with the function of her kidneys and liver. The doctors say a few months and make her comfortable. I believe in miracles and the power of prayer, so please be praying for a miracle for Sharon.

Happy St. Patrick's Day
I was so excited for today! I had gotten some cheap shades/necklace/hat at Target to be festive. Wore the shades/necklace to work last night (the had has glitter in it and it made my head all green and sparkly when I wore it the other day).
Anyway, on my way home I heard this great song by Chris Rice on the radio.
Life Means So Much
Every day is a journal page
Every man holds a quill and ink
And there's plenty of room for writing in
All we do is believe and think
So will you compose a curse
Or will today bring the blessing
Fill the page with rhyming verse
Or some random sketching
Teach us to count the days
Teach us to make the days count
Lead us in better ways
That somehow our souls forgot
Life means so much
Life means so much
Life means so much
Every day is a bank account
And time is our currency
So nobody's rich, nobody's poor
We get 24 hours each
So how are you gonna spend
Will you invest, or squander
Try to get ahead
Or help someone who's under
Teach us to count the days
Teach us to make the days count
Lead us in better ways
That somehow our souls forgot
Life means so much
Life means so much
Life means so much
Has anybody ever lived who knew the value of a life
And don't you think giving is all
What proves the worth of yours and mine
Teach us to count the days
Teach us to make the days count
Lead us in better ways
That somehow our souls forgot
Life means so much
Every day is a gift you've been given
Make the most of the time every minute you're living

Two Wolves
Just opened up my email to find this waiting for me. This has got to be one of the best explanations ever!
The Two Wolves (and a wise man)
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, 'My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all.
One is Evil.
It is anger, envy, jealousy, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good.
It is joy, peace , love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.
The grandson thought about it for a minute
And then asked his grandfather: 'Which wolf wins?'
The old Cherokee simply replied, 'The one you feed.'

At Home
OK, so I got up late this morning. For some reason, the cell (which is what I use for an alarm clock) hadn't "sprung forward" so I missed Sunday school and it was questionable if I'd be able to get ready in time for church. My back was aching pretty good and I just didn't think I could get moving fast enough to make it to church, so I decided to stay home and watch some on TV. I turned to one from Harmony Hill Baptist Church and was blessed to listen.
So the sermon really had a lot to do with marriage. I saw some insights into my part of the failure of my marriage, but I also think the information would be good in ANY relationship. The one phrase that rings out to me is "You can't fix the problem by fixing the blame." Basically, you can't change someone else. You are responsible for your actions and your reactions to others. The pastor pointed out that your ability to forgive others is in direct relation to your relationship with Christ. I truly believe this. I can tell you from an honest position, I was not close to God. I didn't meet with him regularly. I let going to church be my spiritual food. Oh sure, I "tried" to read and pray, but I was too "busy" for it most times. I have found in the last few months, as I put a larger focus on God in my life, it really helps change your outlook. I am still working on things, certainly not perfect, but I am more open to God's leading in my life than I ever have been.
Oh and now I am off to watch Extreme Makeover: Home Edition reruns on TV Land. I LOVE that show! They do amazing things for incredible people! I cry at least a little at every show. I actually watch them partly for this reason. I have shut off a lot of emotions over the years because of things that I've suffered through and I don't want to be that person anymore. I want to let go of the past and be a better friend, co-worker, daughter, mother, etc and I think developing some empathy is in order.

A song to go with it
As I was typing up my last post I kept remembering this song. It is a trio of men that are excellent solo artists. They came together for a project and called themselves Glory Revealed. The song is taken from Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
By His Wounds
He was pierced for our transgressions
He was crushed for our sins
The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him
And by His wounds, by His wounds we are healed
He was pierced for our transgressions
He was crushed for our sins
The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him
And by His wounds, by His wounds we are healed
We are healed by Your sacrifice
And the life that You gave
We are healed for You paid the price
By Your grace we are saved
We are saved
He was pierced for our transgressions
And crushed for our sins
The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him
And by His wounds, by His wounds we are healed
We are healed by Your sacrifice
And the life that You gave
We are healed for You paid the price
By Your grace we are saved
We are saved
He was pierced for our transgressions
He was crushed for our sins
The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him
And by His wounds, by His wounds we are healed
And by His wounds, by His wounds
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
By His Wounds
He was pierced for our transgressions
He was crushed for our sins
The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him
And by His wounds, by His wounds we are healed
He was pierced for our transgressions
He was crushed for our sins
The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him
And by His wounds, by His wounds we are healed

Time to think
OK, so I told you how excited I was about the Pastor's sermon on Sunday. They have posted it on my church's website and it can be found here. I have heard lots of things about the pastor, but have never heard anything negative about him. This blows me away, as there is usually someone ready to find the negative in everyone. What really blows me away is this is a man that is battling cancer, 2 types, and this is I believe the 3rd time he's had to go through the chemo process. Not sure if it's all the same types of cancer all 3 times or if it's been different kinds, as I have just joined this church in the last 6 months. Anyway, what really gets me is it would be so easy for him to get down on himself and just want to give up, but he doesn't. I've heard various church members tell stories about visiting him in the hospital and when they had meant to go minister to him in some way, they have come away being ministered to by him. He exemplifies the love of Christ.
So this is what got me to thinking. How do you become a person like that? How do you get to the point where nothing can get you down, or at least nothing can keep you down? These are just a couple of the questions I've been asking myself in this week rife with introspection. Also, what keeps you from fulfilling this potential.
First off, I think we need to FROG (fully rely on God). There was an evangelist a few months back that spoke about ownership, as in God has ownership of us (and everything else) and we are just managers. I have to remind myself of this often. God has an ultimate plan for everything and I am just seeing a minute portion of the picture. Romans 8:28 says And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. That means everything from good things to painful things, it is all going to work out for good in the end. Hebrews 12:11 Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. So what may cause pain in the present is GOING to bring glory to God in the future. It teaches you.
Secondly, I think of what hinders our reaching out in love to others. I think the number one killer of love is bitterness. I have heard it compared to the roots of a plant and have recently gotten a good visual on that. If you chop down a plant, but leave it's roots, that plant can still grow back. My mom recently noticed that the roots of one of her trees was buckling the skirting on her home, she had the tree cut down, but until those roots are removed, the problem is still there. The same happens with bitterness. You need to dig down, find the roots and ruthlessly eliminate them from your life. I am working on finding the roots. I can find places where I let the events of life fertilize the roots, but I don't really think that's where the bitterness started. I know that I am trying not to function within the bitterness anymore. I made lots of mistakes that way. I just want to move on to a better life in Christ. I really have never felt so alive in my Christianity than I do right now. I realize now more than ever that what I do, whether I like it or not, affects others around me. I realize that when I do let bitterness control me, it is a hazard for other Christians as Hebrews 12 says 14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: 15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled. If I slip up and say the wrong thing or do the wrong thing because I am bitter against someone, it costs me my testimony. And as my pastor preached on Sunday, I want my Christian testimony to be remembered for generations, just like my great-grandmother, who passed way almost 15 years ago. She now has a namesake in her great-great-grandchildren because she was such a sweet Christian lady.
Finally, I think love is the driving force. Do you love God? Then love others. Loving God and loving others is commanded in Matthew 22 (and also in Mark 12 and Luke 10) 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’[d] 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” It doesn't say love those that love you. In fact Luke 6 says 31 And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. 32 “But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.
I understand that it's hard to be loving to those that hurt you, but imagine what Christ did on the cross. He was beaten beyond even looking human, within 1 "stripe" of what they considered deadly, hair ripped from his beard, spat upon, mocked, a crown of thorns shoved onto his head, rail-road tie sized "nails" driven into his feet and hands, just breathing was a great labor, then he was pierced in the side. He gave his life so we might live. He has forgiven us a much larger debt than anyone could ever "owe" us. How can we not forgive and love? Colossians 3 points out 12Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
So this is what got me to thinking. How do you become a person like that? How do you get to the point where nothing can get you down, or at least nothing can keep you down? Driving
I really enjoy the talks I have with my oldest while I drive her to school. We talk about all sorts of things and it's an unforgettable one on one time with her. I think we actually both really enjoy it. Then, on the way back home, I listen to the Christian radio station and that is where I get to hear all these wonderful songs. This morning had several in a row that really spoke to my heart. My favorite one was by Steve Green, a song called Majesty (Here I Am).
Here I am humbled by Your Majesty
Covered by Your grace so free
Here I am knowing I'm a sinful man
Covered by the blood of the Lamb
And now I've found
The greatest love of all is mine
Since You laid down Your life
The greatest sacrifice
Majesty, Majesty
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed but alive in Your hands
Here I am, humbled by the love that You give
Forgiven so that I can forgive
Here I stand, knowing that I'm Your desire
Sanctified by glory and fire
And now I've found
The greatest love of all is mine
Since You laid down Your life
The greatest sacrifice
Singing Majesty, Majesty
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed but alive in Your hands
Lord, Your Majesty, Majesty
Forever I am changed by Your love
In the presence of Your Majesty, Majesty
Here I am, here I am
Singing Majesty, Majesty
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed but alive in Your hands
We're singing Majesty, Majesty
Forever I am changed by Your love
In the presence of Your Majesty
Your Majesty
I'm forgiven, I'm changed
Now Your Majesty
Here I am
Here I am humbled by Your Majesty
Covered by Your grace so free
Here I am knowing I'm a sinful man
Covered by the blood of the Lamb
And now I've found
The greatest love of all is mine
Since You laid down Your life
The greatest sacrifice
Majesty, Majesty
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed but alive in Your hands
Here I am, humbled by the love that You give
Forgiven so that I can forgive
Here I stand, knowing that I'm Your desire
Sanctified by glory and fire
And now I've found
The greatest love of all is mine
Since You laid down Your life
The greatest sacrifice
Singing Majesty, Majesty
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed but alive in Your hands
Lord, Your Majesty, Majesty
Forever I am changed by Your love
In the presence of Your Majesty, Majesty
Here I am, here I am
Singing Majesty, Majesty
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed but alive in Your hands
We're singing Majesty, Majesty
Forever I am changed by Your love
In the presence of Your Majesty
Your Majesty
I'm forgiven, I'm changed
Now Your Majesty
Here I am

Ice cream
I got this in my email. I've gotten it before, but I so love it! God likes us to ask him for everything. Encourage your kids to ask for whatever their heart desires.
Saying Grace In A Restaurant
Last week, I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said, 'God is good, God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if Mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen!'
Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby, I heard a woman remark, 'That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know how to pray. Asking God for ice cream! Why, I never!'
Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, 'Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?'
As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job, and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table.
He winked at my son and said, 'I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer.'
'Really?' my son asked..
'Cross my heart,' the man replied.
Then, in a theatrical whisper, he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), 'Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes.'
Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment, and then did something I will remember the rest of my life.
He picked up his sundae and, without a word, walked over and placed it in front of the woman.. With a big smile he told her, 'Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes; and my soul is good already.'

A song I found
I am loving most songs I hear by this gal, Sara Groves. I heard a different one this morning but couldn't find the lyrics. I stumbled across this one and it is so good!
Less like Scars
It's been a hard year
But I'm climbing out of the rubble
These lessons are hard
Healing changes are subtle
But every day it's
Less like tearing, more like building
Less like captive, more like willing
Less like breakdown, more like surrender
Less like haunting, more like remember
And I feel you here
And you're picking up the pieces
Forever faithful
It seemed out of my hands, a bad situation
But you are able
And in your hands the pain and hurt
Look less like scars and more like
Character
Less like a prison, more like my room
It's less like a casket, more like a womb
Less like dying, more like transcending
Less like fear, less like an ending
And I feel you here
And you're picking up the pieces
Forever faithful
It seemed out of my hands, a bad situation
But you are able
And in your hands the pain and hurt
Look less like scars
Just a little while ago
I couldn't feel the power or the hope
I couldn't cope, I couldn't feel a thing
Just a little while back
I was desperate, broken, laid out, hoping
You would come
And I need you
And I want you here
And I feel you
And I know you're here
And you're picking up the pieces
Forever faithful
It seemed out of my hands, a bad, bad situation
But you are able
And in your hands the pain and hurt
Look less like scars (x3)
And more like

OK, so I had to go look up this song since I'd just stumbled across the lyrics. I listened to it on youtube. GREAT SONG. While looking up this song on youtube I saw the title of the one I'd heard on the radio. It is called When the Saints, but it is not like they typical song you think of. You must look both these songs up on youtube, great music!
Lord I have a heavy burden of all I've seen and know
It's more than I can handle
But your word is burning like a fire shut up in my bones
And I can't let it go
And when I'm weary and overwrought
With so many battles left unfought
I think of Paul and Silas in the prison yard
I hear their song of freedom rising to the stars
And when the saints go marching in
I wanna be one of them
Lord it's all that I can carry and cannot leave behind
It all can overwhelm me
But when I think of all who've gone before and lived the faithful life
Their courage compels me
And when I'm weary and overwrought
With so many battles left unfought
I think of Paul and Silas in the prison yard
I hear their song of freedom rising to the stars
I see the shepherd Moses in the Pharoah's coart
I hear his call for freedom for the people of the Lord
And when the saints go marching in
I wanna be one of them
And when the saints go marching in
I wanna be one fo them
I see the long quiet walk along the Underground Railroad
I see the slave awakening to the value of her soul
I see the young missionary and the end of the spear
I see his family returning with no trace of fear
I see the long hard shadows of Calcutta nights
I see the sisters standing by the dying man's side
I see the young girl huddled on the brother floor
I see the man with a passion come and kicking down that door
I see the man of sorrow and his long troubled road
I see the world on his shoulders and my easy load
And when the saints go marching in
I wanna be one of them
And when the saints go marching in
I wanna be one of them
I wanna be one of them

Sitting in the waiting room
While sitting in the waiting room during a recent doctor visit, I had the chance to read this article. It was a very touching article about a couple that "shocked" people with their relationship. Well, ok more for getting divorced and then marrying each other. These are two prominent people, Amy Grant and Vince Gill. Things didn't work out with their first spouses for whatever reasons, but I never saw/read about the spouses being bashed. They also took what they had learned from their first marriages and used that to NOT make mistakes in the 2nd one. They have now been married a decade and are still ever so much in love with each other.
I love it. I think this is an example of God working things out for the good. Divorce is not good, but when you can take what you've learned from your past and use it to change your future, that is best. I also think it's great that they have gone to great lengths to avoid ex-bashing and bitterness. They are the example I am looking toward as I navigate all these rocky paths.
I can lean on Jesus when the troubles come my way, whether it be remembering the rotten times or when lies about me are being purported as truth and used as attacks. Jesus knows the truth about me and he loves me (John 3:16; I John 4:7-8; I Corinthians 13). That is all that matters!

What a wonderful Lord's day!
So, today was just fabulous! The girls were up early playing nicely together, so we actually got ready to make it to Sunday School on time! Then, in Sunday school, someone pointed out that the Senior Pastor was preaching the sermon!!!! This is a HUGE deal because our Senior Pastor is battling 2 different types of cancer and has been receiving chemotherapy basically the entire time I've attended. This is only the 2nd time I've heard him preach. The music minister did an EXCELLENT job with music choices, which included a sneak preview of a song from tonight's children's musical. By the time the preacher took the pulpit the church was definitely primed for his sermon! Then he gave the most incredible salvation message I've ever heard!
Came home for a bit to eat and relax before heading back to church for practice for the performance. Both girls had parts in it (well, my youngest was just asked to be in it this morning, lol) and I was also in the adult choir section. It was a total blessing to be able to take part in this with both my girls! The kids did a fantastic job with the performance and it was a simple, kid-friendly salvation message. Oh and the person that directed it was only a Junior in HIGH SCHOOL! This kid has talent, I'm telling you and a heart to serve the Lord! We're already looking forward to the next production we may be able to get to be involved in. Oh and I've been asked to join the regular adult choir too.
The day closes with hugs, kisses and so many blessed memories made with my family! We'll be talking about this one for a long time.

A funny pic

So, while sitting at a practice for Ira's upcoming musical at my church, I suddenly got drafted into the cast. The play is really mostly kids, with some adult "choir" back-up. It's REALLY cute. Anyway, today we were doing dress rehearsals as tomorrow is the big performance (btw, this is being directed by a junior in HS with amazing talent). I busted out my cell and snapped a pic in my "bible times" get up. LOL, the first thing I thought of was the song from Fiddler on the Roof...Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match, find me a find, catch me a catch (you'd have to watch it to get it really). I thought I'd share the pic since it was funny.
Another one
This is another Brandon Heath song...good music!
Give Me Your Eyes
Look down from a broken sky
Traced out by the city lights
My world from a mile high
Best seat in the house tonight
Touch down on the cold black top
Hold on for the sudden stop
Breath in the familiar shock
Of confusion and chaos
All those people going somewhere
Why have I never cared
Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me you heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
Step out on a busy street
See a girl and our eyes meet
Does her best to smile at me
To hide what's underneath
There's a man just to her right
Too ashamed to tell his wife
He's out of work, He's buying time
Pre Chorus / Chorus
I've been here a million times
A couple of million eyes
Just move and pass me by
I swear I never thought that I was wrong
I need a second glance
Give me a second chance
To see the way you've seen the people all along
Chorus
Give Me Your Eyes
Look down from a broken sky
Traced out by the city lights
My world from a mile high
Best seat in the house tonight
Touch down on the cold black top

I'm not who I was
OK, so this is a great son by Brandon Heath. They play it a lot on my favorite local Christian station.
I wish you could see me now
I wish I could show you how
I'm not who I was
I used to be mad at you
A little on the hurt side too
But I'm not who I was
I found my way around
To forgiving you
Some time ago
But I never got to tell you so
I found us in a photograph
I saw me and I had to laugh
You know, I'm not who I was
You were there, you were right above me
And I wonder if you ever loved me
Just for who I was
When the pain came back again
Like a bitter friend
It was all that I could do
To keep myself from blaming you
I reckon it's a funny thing
I figured out I can sing
Now I'm not who I was
I write about love and such
Maybe 'cause I want it so much
I'm not who I was
I was thinking maybe I
I should let you know
I am not the same
But I never did forget your name
Hello
Well the thing I find most amazing
In amazing grace
Is the chance to give it out
Maybe that's what love is all about
I wish you could see me now
I wish I could show you how
I'm not who I was
I wish you could see me now
I wish I could show you how
I'm not who I was

How the story goes
So this is how the story goes. It starts like this...
Genesis 3
1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.
And ends like this...
Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, unbelieving,[a] abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
So, I leave you with this thought to ponder. If the devil was willing to lie about God, what my he contrive about each one of us?
Don't let the devil use you as he used the serpent in Genesis 3.

New Pic!
I finally decided it was time to update the pic. The old was was REALLY old. It was about 4 years old, in fact. This one was taken fairly recently after getting a new hair cut. I hardly ever (it's been so long I can't even tell you when it was) get my hair done/cut professionally, but I went to a great salon when I got some extra money and got this awesome 'do. Ever since my hair turned curly I've just let it grow and tried to figure out how it looked best. Now it has a shape and I am liking it.

This is a pic of me and a good friend about a month ago when we went out to eat and then off to Wal*mart to scope out clearance for my girls. Not the best pic, but I love Moe's and Val is so much fun to hang out with!

The Brick
I got this in my email today. It is SO good!
THE
BRICK
A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something. As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door!
He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown. The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting,
'What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That's a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?'
The young boy was apologetic.
'Please, mister...please, I'm sorry but I didn't know what else to do,' He pleaded. 'I threw the brick because no one else would stop...' With tears dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car. 'It's my brother, 'he said 'He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up.'
Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive, 'Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me.'
Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took
out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh scrapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay. 'Thank you and may God bless you,' the grateful child told the stranger. Too shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy
push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home.
It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to
remind him of this message: 'Don't go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!' God whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It's our choice to listen or not.
Thought for the Day:
If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.
If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it.
He sends you flowers every spring.
He sends you a sunrise every morning.
Face it, friend - He is crazy about you!
Send this to every 'beautiful person' you wish to bless.
God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way.
Read this line very slowly and let it sink in...
If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

Love the Light
OK, so I have heard this song a lot lately on a local radio station. It really speaks to me. It goes along with the whole Peter thing too. We all have a past we're not proud of, but God can make a difference in our lives, if we let Him.
Love the Light by Ronnie Freeman (album: God Speaking)
I met a man who lost it all
Ten years ago, just like the fall
He gave in and did it his way
Traded his peace for shadows and shame
Now ten years later, with scars to bare
He's climbing back out of his pit of despair
It is no trouble for him to see
His need for a Savior, His need for mercy - cause
(Chorus)
HE LOVES THE LIGHT
HE'S NOT ASHAMED
HE'S NOTHING TO HIDE
EVERYTHING'S CHANGED
VOICES STILL CALL HIM
BACK TO THE NIGHT
BUT HE'S STANDING STRONG NOW
CAUSE HE LOVES, HE LOVES THE LIGHT
He's learning to dance, learning to sing
He's seeing colors he's never seen
You won't hear him deny who he used to be
He's an open book for the world to read
(Chorus)
HE LOVES THE LIGHT AND PEACE AND HOPE
AND FORGIVENESS
NO MORE HIDING, NO MORE SECRETS
HE LOVES THE SUN, HE LOVES THE SKY, THE CLOUDS
AND HE LOVES THE LIGHT

An explanation is in order
So, yesterday's post came from a frustrated point of view. I have learned that my duty is to try my best to live for God and it doesn't matter what men think of me. OK, well, that's easier said than done. Someone said something to me that felt like a judgment and I felt like the people that may read this blog need to know it is not any human's place to judge. You don't know what the other person is going through or has been through. You don't know their heart, only God does. I think people would get along better if they stopped trying to be the judge of others and looked on the inside to see what God wants of them.
I had a break-through a while back. I can't actually tell you when it was, but I just got serious with God and asked Him, "what do you want me to do?" You know what immediately came to my mind? A scripture verse I've know for a LONG time! This is why it is crucial to not only read the scriptures, but to apply them to your life. I have known this verse at least half my life and have just recently been trying to make the application. Do I still stumble? Yes, I am human, but I would say I am doing a better job of weighing my words and actions since God reminded me of it.
So here it is:
Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the LORD require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?
In trying to live by this verse, I have found myself judging myself more and judging others less. It helps, because the focus is on where YOU are with the Lord, not anyone else. For really, if you are watching what others are doing, then you are not focused on the path ahead of you and it can lead you to tripping/stumbling over things you didn't see.
I heard a good sermon on Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Basically, our Christian life is like a marathon. It's steady growth, toward Christ, until we reach the end (earthly death). If a marathon runner gets distracted (as the man that preached this sermon had), he can get injured by things he didn't expect ahead. But, Jesus says in John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
So we need to follow the way HE leads. It may be completely different than what we would have planned but remember God knows what's best for you.
Oh, I wanted to apologize for not getting the sermon notes up. Seriously, I have had some sinus crud for most of the last month or so, as well as a sinus infection that I've now taken 2 antibiotics for. I just haven't felt much like typing up and looking up sermon notes and Scriptures. Hopefully I can try to get the whole series on Peter posted. It's been REALLY good. I am just so thankful that Jesus left us the story of Peter. He was a shoot from the hip, ask questions later, kind of guy that God transformed into the leader of the New Testament church! I'm so glad that God would take someone that not only cursed and maimed others, but also denied the Lord himself and helped him become something admirable. It's like the transformation of a caterpillar to a butterfly. If he did it for Peter 2000 years ago, he can do it for you and me! PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!

A couple of thoughts on being judgmental
James 4:11 Do not speak against one another, brethren He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it.
Matthew 7:1 Do not judge so that you will not be judged.
Romans 14:13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this-- not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother's way.
John 8:15 You judge according to the flesh; I am not judging anyone.
Luke 6:37 Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned.
All verses are in the NASB, but if you are interested in other versions www.biblegateway.com is a great source!
